If you want to have an incredibly torn six pack abs, then it’s not just about swimming with the current with your abs workout. Many guys work out their abs simply by doing 50 sit-ups – which isn’t even enough to take your breath away, let alone make your abdomen burn…
The point is, your abs need a challenge if they are to develop – just like any other muscle group. This in turn means that you must work hard on them, with exercises that are truly difficult and with very little rest between them.
This abs routine does just that. It was created by Jeff Cavaliere of Athlean-X, who learned the training of a boxing coach in New York City. He gave this training while training a client and describes how ‘still brings nightmares’.
What you will need
This abdominal workout involves many different suspended movements, such as leg lift and variations. So unless you have a steel footprint and isometric biceps strength like anyone else, getting a captain’s chair will be helpful, or using one at the gym. This way you can perform suspended lifts without getting tired before your abs are fully worked out.
Why it works
It’s not just about torturing yourself, you also need to think about why specific training is so effective. Here, of course, we have a routine that is incredibly intense and really forces you to do your best. This in the face is enough to make your abs burn – abs that had probably become somewhat complacent with your normal routines.
Because these exercises are all suspended, you will be working mainly on the lower abdomen. This is important because the lower abdomen is often overlooked. At the same time, using weighted knee lifts will add some resistance to your abdomen workout. This is something that you can benefit from too much, which is missing in the vast majority of ab workouts.
Finally, sidebar bangers (so-called because their knees will hit the handles of the captain’s chair) will ensure that their obliques are also worked for a well-balanced abdomen.
Try and feel the difference and the burning. But don’t depend on using this workout often, these types of routines are great for ‘shocking’ your muscles into action. Save them for when you really want your abs to burn…
